History
The breed is originally from the Canary Islands in the 1700s, notably Tenerife and Gran Canaria. Its exact ancestry is unknown, but enthusiasts believe that an already established farm dog from the Canary Islands by the name of Majorero (Perro de Bardino Majorero) was crossed with the Mastiff of England and Old-Style Bulldogs that were brought from Europe to the Islands by visitors and colonists, creating the foundation for the modern Presa Canario.
It is also believed that a number of Spanish and breeds may have contributed to the development of the Presa Canario such as the Perro de Ganado Majorero, Presa Español, and Alano Español.
Presa type dogs are mentioned in historical documents of the 16th and 17th centuries, as guard dogs and catch dogs. Perro de Presa Canario is generally considered as being created during the 18th century with the above-mentioned crosses for the purpose of dog fighting, tradition which the English settlers transplanted along with their English breeds of Mastiff and Bulldog. | post a comment / 54 answers, last yesterday 23:51 /

A Shelter Dog named Hope
My owner left me tied to a tree and pregnant.
They have moved away and it has been couple of days since I last saw them.
I wait and no one comes.
Did I do something wrong to be punished like this?
My food has been gone since yesterday and my water dish dumped.
My belly grumbles with hunger and my puppies are moving around more.
I am almost due to have my puppies.
I lay down and sleep under the stars.
The next day a nice lady comes.
She puts a leash on me and takes me away.
Still no sign of my owner
I have lost so much weight from lack of food.
I am put into a truck and taken away.
I look out the window for any signs of my owner.
We arrive to this place and I hear a lot of dogs barking.
The pound is full
I am placed in a kennel with canned food mixed with dry.
They bring in some water.
I eat the food like there was no tomorrow.
A lady brings in a blanket for me to sleep on.
She gives me some attention and pets my head.
I lay on the warm blanket and wonder. | post a comment / 2 answers, last 8 May 2009 09:19 09:19 /

| What happens when pit bulls are attacked funny but you never here about it... |
saya | | 1 Dec 2008 09:43 09:43 |
I want to thank everyone who has been there for me the past few days. If you don't know my 2yr
female pit bull Pandora was attacked by a horse on Thanksgiving. She was rushed to the E- Vet they
were able to save her life. We are so thankful we still have her. She is the sweetest dog ever. I just
wanted to let everyone know. The horse is fine she did nothing to defend herself. I know we never get
to hear about when are beautiful dogs are hurt. They wouldn't want anyone to know the truth about
pit bulls or that they almost always have mistaken identity... Again Thank you | post a comment / 1 answers, last 29 Dec 2008 14:00 14:00 /

I wrote to the president of Dog Legislation Council of Canada Org and basically asked her what the deal is and the real facts.. She responded quite quickly with this advise
"Until we are finished with the Remedy portion of the legal challenge then the law, Bill 132 is what you must abide with.
It is a complex and expensive court case and the DLCC does not wish to be placed in the position of having to give a legal interpretation to the general public at this time.
Once Remedy is discussed, the DLCC will post further clarification.
We do have a forum where this is explained further (inside the DLCC membership) but you must be a member.
Members of the DLCC are privy to many things our council is involved with, without fear of placing the DLCC in another unwanted legal challenge.
So for now, comply with the law and cross your fingers we will not only win this but be able to pay the bill at the end of it all.
BTW your dogs are very nice looking.
(OF COURSE I SENT A PICTURE OF BLUES AND CHINA)"

| Bean and Pearl |
beanandlib | | 27 Dec 2008 20:40 20:40 |
| I adopted a pit bull about 5 years ago. her name is bean and she has gotten in a bit of touble in the past with another dog that lived down the street, but other than that she gets along with most other dogs. Well a few months back my mom found a albino pit bull which we took in as our own as well. We soon found out that she couldn't hear and were told that she might be hard to deal with since they tend to startle easily. The two got along great Bean being the alfa dog and pearl still only about a year old bowing down to her. but about 3 months into having her we started to notice some aggressive behavior in pearl the new albino pit. she started growling at my Fiancee when he would have a hooded sweater on and lunged at him once. a few nights later a friend of my sisters was over and he was as well wearing a hooded sweater she growled again and lunged this time biting him. about a week later we had a party and a friend of mine brought his male dog over who has been beans friend since they were puppys . | post a comment / no answers /

| JUST YESTERDAY |

| Now I am really confused. Last night Jerome and I were walking China a and Blues with leash and muzzles(required by law). A huge black dog came charging across the street from his front porch. Jerome yelled to the owner who came running out to get the dog on a leash or in the house. For the first time I was really frightened because if anything should happen it would be our dogs that would be penalized. Anyway everything was ok, as the dog took off to the park. I called animal services today to find out exactly what the laws are about dogs being off leash and was told that as long as they are on their property then it is ok*with the exception of BSL dogs. So basically you have to wait for a dog to run off its property and hurt someone before you do anything(what a joke). I got talking to the Animal Control guy because there are so many questions about the BSL that really are confusing. He told me that as far as he knows, the last time this hit the courts(about 2 months ago) because Pitbulls are not recognized as a breed of dog here in Canada then any dog with that title or Pitbull mix no longer falls under the legislature. | post a comment / 2 answers, last 16 Dec 2008 02:32 02:32 /
